ABOUT THE PROFESSIONAL

Dr. Felipe Figueiredo

Urologist who dedicated the last 8 years of his career to developing a self-funded HoLEP program in Brazil. He has overcome the learning curve by visiting some of the biggest HoLEP centers on different continents. He became recognized worldwide in the international urological community for the development of thinner resectoscopes (22F and 18.5F) for HoLEP, managing to reduce the risk of complications and symptoms. The development of the thinnest endoscopes came about in partnership with the German manufacturer RZ. Medizintechnik, from Tuttlingen. The new modality of HoLEP was called MiLEP (Minimally invasive Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) and has been adopted by urologists in several countries around the world, such as Italy, Poland and Australia.

In the last 6 years he has been regularly invited to speak at some of the main Endourology congresses in Europe (Technology & Training in Endourology in Turin-Italy in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 and Challenges in Endourology in Berlin in 2019) . In 2022 he performed live demonstration surgeries in Poland, Argentina and Chile. He reached the milestone of 1,200 HoLEPs in October 2022. Today, he is exclusively dedicated to HoLEP and the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.

HoLEP

About HoLEP

HoLEP is an acronym in English to Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate. The procedure consists on complete removal (enucleation) from adenoma (prostate central part) through endoscopy way, through urethra (with any abdominal incision).

Recommendation

It is recommended by European Association Guidelines (EAU), American (AUA) and British (NICE) from Urology with level 1 of scientific evidence and more than 20 years of experience in several
centers in the world. It can be used for prostates in any size, even on patients with a higher bleeding risk (with the use of anticoagulant).

Procedure

The hospitalization average time is 24h and catheter average time is less than 24h. In our center, all the procedures, using thinner endoscopes than the conventional, reduces the urethral trauma (tube) and significantly reducing postoperative symptoms.
